FFmpeg Subtitle Tools (n8.1-pgs7.0)
I’ve put together an FFmpeg build that does the subtitle conversions stock FFmpeg won’t. It goes directly between text formats (SRT, ASS/SSA, WebVTT) and bitmap formats (PGS, DVD, DVB) without losing animation. Fades, colour changes and movement come through intact. There’s built-in OCR for 114 languages, RGBA straight to GIF without messing with filters, and 88 format combinations that weren’t possible before.
Builds are up for Linux, macOS and Windows, x86_64 and arm64. Two flavours: a minimal one, and -eng which bundles English OCR data. Builds with OCR data for all supported languages are available from the GitHub releases. LGPL 2.1.
This was built with Claude Opus 4.6 and continues to evolve.
